Vermont DOC Signs Contract To Provide Pennsylvania With $7.1 Million Annually – And We Have A 250-Minimum-Inmate Quota To Boot

In what can only be viewed as a giant step backwards to achieving Vermont’s alleged goal to return all Vermont inmates currently housed in out-of-state, private, for-profit prisons back to Vermont, VTDigger reports that the Vermont DOC has just inked a new deal with Pennsylvania that will reward the Keystone State and its taxpayers handsomely–to the tune of $7.1 million a year (cue Price is Right winner’s music).

Vermonters’ for Criminal Justice Reform leader Suzy Wizowaty offers dead-on analysis in the story, telling Digger:

“We had an opportunity this spring to not enter into a new contract, and it would not be that hard to do,” Wizowaty said. “We just apparently lack the political will.”
