What Is VTPAC?

The Vermont Political Awareness Committee (VTPAC) is your union’s political arm and the way VSEA facilitates member participation in pro-worker, pro-union political events and actions across Vermont. The more VSEA members belonging to VTPAC, the better your union’s ability to help elect pro-worker, pro-union candidates to office.

“Our PAC gives us the ability to elect union members and labor supporters to key decision-making roles.”

– Dr. Leslie Matthews, VTPAC Member

VTPAC was created in 1996 at the request of the VSEA membership, who recognized the importance of making state employees’ collective power known to politicians. Remember that labor unions have historically had to fight hard to win the right to participate in the political process, and VSEA’s path was no different, but, working together, we did it.

VSEA’s participation in the process includes things like providing pro-union candidates with member volunteers, or in some cases providing them with financial support, which is why VtPAC’s primary goal is to raise enough money to fund as many pro-worker candidates as possible.

In reality, VSEA members are more dependent on lawmakers in Montpelier than most. That’s because, while our wages are bargained between VSEA and the State, it’s lawmakers who must vote to allocate the funds required to pay for any negotiated salary increase.

Make no mistake, VSEA and VTPAC are in your corner every day, fighting to keep anti-union politicians out of office and working to elect candidates who are committed to helping VSEA members protect their hard-won benefits and protections.

Don’t ever forget that VSEA members are Vermonters and taxpayers too, and state employees’ issues and concerns are equally as important as any other group of working Vermonters.

By signing up today to become a VTPAC member, you are helping improve not only your working life but also the working lives of all state employees.
