WDEV Debate On O’Neill’s Confirmation Does Nothing Whatsoever To Bolster Scott Admin’s Argument She Qualifies As “Neutral”

On WDEV, VSEA Executive Director Steve Howard debated former Green Mountain Power Executive Steve Terry on the Senate’s recent vote to oppose Karen O’Neill’s confirmation to the VLRB as a "neutral." Terry recently penned a commentary that labeled the Senate’s rejection of O’Neill’s confirmation as "shameful." Obviously, VSEA and nearly all of Vermont labor disagrees with Mr. Terry’s viewpoint–as did the Senate.

Terry said little to strengthen O’Neill’s case, and he did not appear to understand the process to nominate individuals to the Review Panel, saying he believed the DOL Commissioner’s one call to an IBEW official sufficed.

VSEA’s case was supported on air by Rep. Paul Poirier, who dropped into the WDEV studio to add his analysis and by longtime labor leader Stephen Finner, who calls in near the end of the debate.

What’s your takeaway from this debate VSEA? Howard vs. Terry begins at 59:56 – Listen Here

Monique’s daughter Tiffany also lost all her belongings.

VSEA Judiciary Unit Members Overwhelmingly Ratify New Two-Year Agreement With Courts

Just weeks after reaching tentative agreement on a new two-year contract with the Judiciary, VSEA members belonging to the Unit voted overwhelmingly by electronic ballot to ratify the agreement.

The Judiciary Unit’s new contract includes first-time hourly pay of 60 cents for "Relief from Abuse" stand-by assignment (starting in year two) and improvements to overtime and to the Unit’s designated education and development fund. The Unit’s contract mirrors the wage and benefit package just imposed on the VSEA Executive Branch Bargaining Teams.

Thanks To Your Solidarity, VSEA Won An Important Battle, But…

The VSEA Board of Trustees and the VSEA Legislative Committee are thanking VSEA members, retirees and supporters for your recent deluge of calls and emails to Vermont Senators, opposing Karen O’Neill’s confirmation to a "neutral" seat on the Vermont Labor Relations Board (VLRB). VSEA’s Legislative Team reports they heard from many Senators about the large number of calls and messages they were receiving in advance of Saturday afternoon’s historic vote (first time to oppose in 25 years). VSEA members’ solidarity, activism and support are the main reasons this vote turned out the way it did, and it’s a prime example of the power VSEA members and retirees can have when everyone is on the same page and moving the same direction. Like the old labor saying goes, "In unity, there is strength."
