On May 31, 2016 the VSEA Legislative Committee met to make their endorsement recommendations to the Board of Trustees. These recommendations are only a preliminary step in the four-step political endorsement process. The final endorsement will be based on this information as well as member straw poll results, member feedback and candidate statements. The Board of Trustees will submit their recommendations to the entire VSEA Council who will finalize political endorsements at the June 7 Council meeting.

Here is a message from the Legislative Committee:

Based on the questionnaires provided to the Legislative Committee of the Vermont State Employees’ Association, the Committee recommends the following endorsements to the Vermont State Employees’ Association Board of Trustees and to the members of the VSEA:
 

Democratic Gubernatorial Primary:

The Legislative Committee recommends Peter Galbraith 
 

Republican Gubernatorial Primary:

Based on the questionnaire, the Legislative Committee has chosen not to recommend either candidate because neither one has demonstrated a commitment to support our members or labor.

Democratic Lieutenant Gubernatorial Primary:

The Legislative Committee recommends David Zuckerman. We recognize the pro-labor positions of all three candidates for Lieutenant Governor and are grateful for their work. We recommend David Zuckerman based on his consistency to support VSEA member and labor.
 

State Treasurer:

The Legislative Committee recommends Beth Pearce. We support Beth Pearce because she has been a strong, consistent ally in protecting the state employees’ retirement fund and their retirement benefits.
 

Attorney General:

The Legislative Committee recommends TJ Donovan. We recommend TJ Donovan because of his record of supporting his employees’ right to organize, and his strong position against private prisons.
