VSEA is inviting interested members, retirees, and community allies and supporters to attend a February 21 grievance hearing regarding the emergency closing of the Waterbury office complex. The hearing is being held at Noble Hall on the campus of the Vermont School of Fine Arts in Montpelier. The venue for this hearing before the Vermont Labor Relations Board was switched to Noble Hall in an effort to accommodate a larger crowd.

Article 44 of the collective bargaining agreement requires the State to pay employees specific compensation when they are required to work while their work facilities are closed due to an emergency (such as adverse weather conditions, acts of God, equipment breakdown, inoperable bathroom facilities, etc.). VSEA filed the grievance because the State has said that the Waterbury complex was not closed in the days following Tropical Storm Irene, and has not paid employees who were required to work in accordance with that contract provision.”

The VLRB hearing begins at 9:00 a.m. and is scheduled to end around 4:30 p.m. VSEA will be providing pizza and salad and beverages to members, beginning at noon.
