Not only does Rep. Copeland-Hanzas squash any hope of a dedicated revenue stream to fund state employee, teacher and trooper pensions, she adds a threat to the VSEA, VtNEA and VTA.
From the Digger story:
As a carrot in negotiations, lawmakers had set aside $150 million in one-time funds last year to put toward the state’s obligations once a reform was agreed to. But if the parties are not able to come to agreement, Copeland Hanzas said, that money might be used elsewhere.
“150 million goes back to the appropriations committees, and they figure out what the priorities are,” she said.

VSEA’s Board of Trustees is again challenging every VSEA Chapter and its members to raise as much money as possible between now and December 31 to provide meals to a “virtual food drive” for the Vermont Foodbank.
Want to get in on the challenge? Just go to the Fundraising Challenge page on VSEA.org, choose your Chapter, and then hit the “Donate” button. Every dollar you donate, via this donation page, supports the Vermont Foodbank! The VSEA Chapter with the most money raised by New Year’s wins some well-deserved bragging rights!
“Donating money to the Vermont Foodbank provides more food…bang for the buck…than donating food you’ve purchased individually,” explains VSEA Board member Will Wells. “This is because the Vermont Foodbank can purchase food at bulk discounted rates.”
The total amount of money VSEA donated to the Foodbank in 2020 was $11,904, and VSEA’s Chittenden Chapter raised the most!

VSEA is sending its deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of DCF Social Worker Lisa Kelley, who tragically died yesterday, sadly and allegedly as a result of domestic violence.
Lisa was based in DCF’s Family Services Division in Morrisville, where she began working in November 2015. She is being remembered as a valued colleague, mentor, and friend.
Anyone in need of help can call the Vermont Network Domestic Violence hotline at 1-800-228-7395.
