"Looking to rein in the use of public money to pay what he called excessive salaries, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo signed an executive order on Wednesday placing a $199,000 limit on the amount of state funds that contractors can use to pay executives."
Legislation would ensure Vermont contracts only with companies that pay their employees a fair and livable wage. This is defined by companies whose CEO earns no more than eight times what the company’s lowest paid employee earns.
“There needs to be a good records management system in place to prevent records from being destroyed or lost in the future,” [VSEA Associate General Counsel Abilgail] Winters said. “I know [Sec’y of State] Jim Condos is committed to that, and I know this administration is committed to transparency, so I’m confident we’ll have a sound policy in the near future.”
VSEA DOC Chair Dave Bellini asked VSEA to express his thanks publicly to DOC Commissioner Andy Pallito. Bellini praised Pallito for being true to his word and listening to VSEA members when they raised the need with him to eliminate the large number of temporary employees currently working in the DOC. Recently, Pallito informed DOC employees that 16 DOC temporary positions were being converted to permanent correctional officer positions, attributing the move to his desire to "enhance the safety and security of our institutions."
