The Vermont State Employees’ Association Board of Trustees met in special session on June 23 and voted to name Steve Howard to be the union’s new Executive Director. Howard currently serves as VSEA’s Legislative Director; a position he has held since January 2013.
In the wake of VSEA’s recent attempt to pass legislation to reduce the State of Vermont’s dependence on private, for-profit, often out-of-state contractors, VSEA is sharing this new study “Race to the Bottom” by the group In The Public Interest with members. The study begins:
“A growing body of evidence and industry wage data suggest an alarming trend: outsourcing public services sets off a downward spiral in which reduced worker wages and benefits can hurt the local economy and overall stability of middle and working class communities.”

Today, the Vermont State Employee Association (VSEA) learned via press release that the Department of Human Resources (DHR) has concluded its two-month-plus investigation of VSEA member and leader John Howe and found him not to be in violation of the charges he was being investigated for by DHR.
