7Days Reports: Governor Scott Met With CoreCivic/CCA Lobbyists Prior To Informing Legislators About Proposal To Allow Them In VT

"Records obtained by Seven Days show that [Gov.] Scott met with representatives of CoreCivic, formerly known as Corrections Corporation of America, during a February 2017 trip to Washington, D.C. According to Scott spokesperson Rebecca Kelley, the 15-minute meeting included CoreCivic’s Ohio-based lobbyist, Dan Kaman, and the company’s Vermont lobbyist, Andrew MacLean."

The Scott Administration is doing its best job to spin the meeting as a simple "That a boy" meet and greet, but the story does raise suspicions about how much influence corporate lobbyists have today in Montpelier and on the Fifth Floor.

Equally alarming is this map (See above or view larger image here), which shows that CCA lobbyists have had their sights set on little old Vermont for a while and have been actively working our state leaders and lawmakers for years.

Video: Assault In The Workplace: Patient On Worker Assaults At The Vermont Psychiatric Care Hospital

Find your local lawmakers contact information here.

Send a message to the Governor here.

Members of the Vermont State Employees’ Association have proudly cared for Vermonters with severe and acute mental illness for more than 50 years, and while the job has always come with inherent dangers, these days workers at the new Vermont Psychiatric Care Hospital say chronic understaffing and mandated overtime are contributing to making a bad situation even worse.

The VPCH frontline workers are asking Vermonters or anyone else watching this video to join their fight to ensure proper staffing levels on every shift as well as forcing management to institute comprehensive and well-defined safety protocols to guide the workers moving forward.

Thanks in advance for your help and support!
