VSEA Corrections Unit Members & Their Families Provide Lawmakers With A Reality Check About What It’s Like To Work In Today’s State Corrections System — Facility & Field
Tears were shed, voices were raised and pointed questions were asked at last night’s special VSEA Corrections Unit dinner with lawmakers in Montpelier. Dozens of VSEA members from across the state attended last night’s dinner, some bringing their family members with them, and they were able to speak candidly with lawmakers about the toll understaffing, mandated overtime, and other factors are taking on both workers and their families. A handful of lawmakers attended last night’s dinner, including the chair of the House Corrections and Institutions Committee. Several lawmakers in attendance voiced their support for the workers and thanked them for openly sharing how difficult it is these days to work in a facility or in the field. A few indicated they would be taking what they heard and learned back to the State House to share with their colleagues who could not attend.
