VSEA has received word from several members that the State’s planned roll out of its ESD modernization project on October 11 has been postponed because there are far too many glitches in the system.
One member wondered how much money the State has invested in training, lodging, meals etc, getting staff ready for the roll out, only to postpone it indefinately.
"Northrop Grumman’s statewide computer system has crapped out again. Under [the] former [governor], the company entered into the biggest-ever state contract worth $2.3 billion in 2005 to pull together the state’s mishmash of computer systems and transform them into a seamless, smooth-running whole. The result has been a disaster."
According to a March 2010 report posted on Kellogg Insight:
“Vermont, the least underfunded [pension system in the nation] as a percent of total tax revenue, would still need over twenty months of tax revenue to make up for its pension fund shortfall…”
"Once the outsourcing begins, so do the firings, the cost overruns, and loss of expertise."
According to some VSEA members who work in IT, Vermont too is heading down a path to outsource much of our IT services.
