With state  employees staring at a mandate to  somehow find $5-$10 million for the  State, VSEA members are urged to  share this Governor Shumlin meme far and  wide. Remind Vermonters that  employees genuinely thought the switch  would produce the Governor’s  stated  savings, but it didn’t–and that’s through no fault of state  employees.  Remind Vermonters that the $10 million would have covered the  amount  the State now wishes to extract from employees.

In May 1887, 25 proud Vermont  veterans were the first to pass through the doors of our state’s only  designated veterans’ care facility, the Soldiers’ Home—or as we now know  it, the Vermont Veterans’ Home (VVH).
Since opening, the Home and its caregivers have provided a bed and  top-level care to thousands of Vermont heroes in a safe and welcoming  environment, but a recent ill-advised vote by the VVH’s Board of  Trustees could soon reduce the number of beds at the facility from 171  to 130, meaning there may not be a bed available in the near future for a  deserving Vermont hero.

The 5,500 members of the Vermont State  Employees Association (VSEA) are united and determined to fight back  against the Shumlin Administration’s budget proposals targeting state  employees and announced in the Governor’s annual budget address.
