The “Vermont Way?” State & Lawmakers To Explore Building New $140 Million Prison-In Partnership With Corrections Corporation

VTDigger reports today the the State and lawmakers are in the "very early stages" of discussions about Vermont constructing a new $140 million prison, which would be done in a "public-private partnership," most likely with CCA (now re-branded CoreCivic due to their hideously bad track record). Officials say the new prison would force closure of the Windsor, Swanton and South Burlington facilities.

VSEA Probation & Parole Officers In Montpelier To Lobby For The Right To Carry A Firearm

VSEA member and Probation and Parole Officer Mike Arace (pictured here at microphone) and some of his colleagues traveled from Brattleboro to Montpelier this morning to testify to the Senate Corrections Committee about why they want to be allowed to carry a firearm while on the job—but only after completing extensive training and being certified as a law enforcement officer.
