The VSEA Board of Trustees reconvened Tuesday night to continue discussing how best to protect VSEA members’ pensions and talk about next steps.
The Board was unable to reach consensus on whether or not employees should contribute more to the fund, but the body was able to agree on the following positions, with respect to any debate about state employee pensions moving forward.

The VSEA Awards/Scholarships Committee is currently soliciting applications from students seeking financial assistance in the pursuit of post-secondary educational goals.
The Committee will announce the recipients of the scholarships at the June Council Meeting.
Deadline: 4:30 p.m. on May 7, 2021

Many of you have asked for guidance on how best to communicate with your legislators about the Treasurer’s proposed changes to your retirement.
Here are some pointers:
First, you may be asked to make this call several times this year as the discussion goes on, so your first call or your first email should emphasize who you are, what you do for the State, and how long you have done it. If you don’t already have a relationship with your legislators, build one with them— that is the key to convincing them that your view is the right one.
Second, emphasize how the proposed changes may impact you personally.
Third, ask the legislators to consider taking the following actions before they make devastating cuts to the pensions of state employees in the midst of a pandemic. Continue Reading Here.
Throughout this legislative session, VSEA’s Legislative Department will be providing a schedule of committee meetings of interest to VSEA members and retirees. Due to the pandemic, meetings are all done by Zoom.
