JUDICIARY UNIT MEMBERS VOTE TO RATIFY NEW TWO-YEAR CONTRACT

The VSEA Elections, Rules, and Nominating Committee has certified that the VSEA members of the Judiciary Bargaining Unit have ratified their contract settlement agreement on a new, two-year contract that will become effective on July 1, 2024.

The Judiciary Unit contact becomes the sixth collective bargaining agreement negotiated by the VSEA since last fall.  Members in the Non-Management, Corrections, Supervisory, and Defender General units approved their respective contract settlements in 2024 and the State’s Attorneys’ Offices Unit membership will soon be voting on ratification of their negotiated tentative agreement.

VSEA thanks the Judiciary Unit bargaining team for their work to reach a contract settlement that has the approval of its members.

Trooper Suffers Life-Threatening Traumatic Injuries In Vehicle Crash. VTA Collecting Donations To Aid Trooper & His Family

VSEA is sharing this statement from the Vermont State Police and Vermont Troopers Association, asking labor and the public to donate to help out the family.

VSP Statement:

Corporal Eric Vitali was involved in a serious on-duty motor vehicle crash on I-89 northbound in the town of Bethel, VT, on March 8, 2024. His cruiser sustained massive front-end damage and crushing of the driver’s compartment. He was life-flighted to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH. Eric suffered life-threatening traumatic injuries, and his condition is critical. His injuries include a traumatic brain injury, spinal fractures, and pelvis fracture. His doctors are indicating that the coming 72 hours will be critical in determining the outcome of his recovery.

JUDICIARY UNIT REACHES TENTATIVE CONTRACT AGREEMENT

The VSEA Judiciary Unit Bargaining Team reached a tentative agreement with the State of Vermont Judiciary on Friday, January 12th for a successor two-year contract that would become effective on July 1, 2024.  The Bargaining Team will be scheduling informational meetings to review the settlement and answer members’ questions. 

All agreements reached during contract negotiations are tentative pending approval by the unit membership through ratification voting.  The dates for voting on this new contract have not been set.

AFT VT & VSEA Call On VTSU To Eliminate The Chancellor’s Position

VSEA and the AFT released a joint press statement this morning, publicly calling for the elimination of the VTSU Chancellor’s position.

The unions representing the faculty and the frontline workers, represented by the AFT and the VSEA are jointly calling on the Board of Trustees of Vermont State Colleges System to eliminate the Office of Chancellor. If that is not feasible, then to include their members on the search committee for the new chancellor as well as the Board of Trustees.

“VTSU needs to cut the massive $13 million dollars in bloated management salaries and invest more funding closer to the students by retaining faculty and increasing the pay of frontline staff.” Said Billie Neathawk, President of the VSEA VTSU Staff Federation and a 25-year employee on the VTSU Castleton Campus.
