Current National Weather Service Forecast - Irene moving slowly up NJ coast
(Updated: 7:22 a.m. Sunday) The National Weather Service has all counties in Vermont including Rutland and Windsor north under a flash flood watch. Bennington and Windham counties are under tropical storm watch - how often do you hear that about Vermont? See the map and updates here.
Irene is projected to reach Southern New England later tonight. It is now a category 1 hurricane (as of 11 a.m. Saturday), with wind up to 85 mph. High winds, heavy rains, strong chance of flooding and wind damage to trees and power lines are predicted when it hits Vermont later on Sunday. Forecasting 3 to 5 inches in the Champlain Valley and 5-7 inches in eastern Vermont.
Roger Hill (up in Central Vermont) says it will be a nice day Saturday (and by and large it is - albeit muggy and overcast in Rutland) and the weather should blow by pretty rapidly on Monday, leaving nice weather for cleanup.
