VSEA Legislative Team Issues Alert!

Please Keep The Pressure On Your Elected Officials!!!!

Dear VSEA Members,
The Appropriations Conference Committee is currently in deliberations on the FY2010 budget. They are considering including up to $14 million worth of savings to be achieved through negotiations between VSEA and the Administration. Given the fact that negotiations are at an impasse, it is likely that $14 million could come entirely through layoffs and result in over 400 job cuts. To avoid as many layoffs as possible, we need the Conference Committee to support public services by shrinking this $14 million hole as much as possible.  VSEA needs your help!  It could make a difference in saving state jobs!
Action Step 1:
Please take an hour or two of leave time, or the day off, to come to the State House on Tuesday, May 5, 2009 for the following meetings:
·         the Legislative Labor Caucus at 12:00 p.m. in Room 10;
·         the Democratic Caucus at 1:15 p.m. in Room 11; and
·         the Appropriations Conference Committee meetings in the morning and afternoon in Room 11
If you are able to come, please make arrangements to meet beforehand with your legislators.
Action Step 2:
Contact your legislators tonight or this weekend.  Ask them to look at raising revenue, using Rainy Day Funds, and reducing the use of private contractors, temps, and exempt employees to fix the budget shortfall, instead of balancing the budget on the backs of state employees.
