Letter Writer Doesn’t Like State Officials Use Of The Word “Reasonable”

"What both Lunderville and Gov. Douglas refuse to admit to the citizens of Vermont, is that their proposed cuts to state workers salaries would come to more than 14 percent for a family earning $35,000.00."

Editor of the Reformer:

I find it truly hypocritical and most likely willing deceitful that Administration Secretary Neale Lunderville continues to say that Gov. James Douglas’ pay cut proposal for state workers is "reasonable."

What both Lunderville and Gov. Douglas refuse to admit to the citizens of Vermont, is that their proposed cuts to state workers salaries would come to more than 14 percent for a family earning $35,000.00.

Lunderville earns $55.58 per hour and has an annual salary of $115,606. So if he took a 14 percent salary cut, he would still be making close to $100,000. But don’t forget, Lunderville is only taking a 5 percent cut. I guess when you earn that much money, it’s hard to understand what it means to raise a family of four on what an average Vermonter earns. That would be about three times less than Lunderville.

Maybe Lunderville and Gov. Douglas would feel more comfortable living in South Carolina or Louisiana — states that have governors who would support their reactionary politics.
