In most of the world, today is International Labor Day, a day to honor all of the contributions working people make every day, and to remind all workers of how labor unions throughout history have lifted the economic conditions of all people. Today in Vermont, however, the House of Representatives is considering an anti-union, anti-teacher measure that would strip away your collective bargaining rights when it comes to health insurance. The Beck amendment would implement the proposal from Gov. Phil Scott and the Vermont School Boards Association taking away teachers ability to negotiate with their local school boards.

Please take a moment NOW and call your representatives and tell them to vote NO on the Beck amendment to H509. These types of anti-union proposals are all the rage these days with Republican governors, and where they succeed, teachers – and all workers – fall further behind.

The measure is touted as a means to save money – don’t buy it. It’s merely a ploy to disguise the real motive: strip away collective bargaining rights, take money out of Vermonters’ pockets, and give even more power to Montpelier. The Senate last week voted against this serious attack on you and your colleagues. Tell the House to do the same.

Please call right now and tell your representatives to vote NO on the Beck amendment. We don’t want to go down the path trod by Wisconsin, Michigan, and Ohio.

Call the State House and leave a message with the Sargent at Arms: 802-828-2228 or find your Representatives’ contact information here!
